Tom Bacon was up crisp and early last Sunday as the star rider attraction on the Kent TouchTec Kings’ stall at the ‘Celebration of Speedway’ event in Paradise Park in Hertfordshire. The annual event held every February commemorates the anniversary of the first ever Speedway meeting held in the UK, at the King’s Oak track at High Beech in Epping Forest in 1928 and it’s an early opportunity for the current crop of clubs to promote themselves before the latest (a 93rd year) season of British Speedway.
Kent chose the occasion to launch their new logo and celebrate the fantastic support going into an historic first ever season in the sport’s second tier, the Speedway GB Championship [SGBC] being given by TouchTec.
Team Manager Chris Hunt was present too and spoke of the support the Kings get from Rob Kashdan of TouchTec who specialise in supplying, installing and maintaining the latest multi-function devices, which seamlessly integrate printing, scanning and copying, delivering technology that does more, helping businesses achieve more.
“The support Rob gives us is so much more than financial backing as the Kings’ team sponsor. TouchTec produce our programme and Rob has been instrumental in helping to bring our current crop of riders for the forthcoming SGBC season together and working hard on all matters around developing the club.”
Bacon is very happy to be on board at a club where he already enjoys a great reputation. Sitting astride one of his bikes on Sunday, he can’t wait to be revving it up in earnest and getting back into track action after an injury-hit 2019.
“I feel like I have made big strides each season I’ve been racing, even with the injuries and so I am really looking forward to pushing on even further this season with the TouchTec Kings as I know I have a lot more potential for improvement.”
The 26-year-old university graduate went on, “Obviously it’s the club’s first season in the SGBC and there’s no doubt it will be a learning experience for everyone involved.
“However the team is shaping up really nicely and the aim will definitely be to do all we can to try and make those end of season play-offs”.
The season gets underway at Central Park with Bacon and team mates taking their part in an all-star line-up in the Kent Open Chase individual on Wednesday (the new regular race night) April 8th.
