Deadline day transter business has seen Kent TouchTec Kings bring in the experienced David Wallinger to bolster the side on the run in to the National League [NL] play offs.
The 35-year-old from York has certainly lived up to the title ‘have Speedway bike will travel’ this term – having been with Plymouth Gladiators after initially starting the campaign with Mildenhall.
Wallinger rode in Suffolk last term too in fact – having a spell in the SGB Championship with Ipswich Witches and for a period in his busy 2019 season he gained more experience in that division with Birmingham. David’s other NL clubs over the past four seasons have been in his native north of England at Stoke & Buxton.
Successful ‘Guest’ appearances for the Kings at home against one of his former sides, Stoke Potters when he achieved double figures and playing his part in the incredible away win at Belle Vue put the Yorkshireman firmly on Chris Hunt’s radar and with skipper Rob Ledwith still out with his injured shoulder and Wallinger released by Plymouth, the Kent team boss has re-declared the side with Wallinger in as injury cover for Ledwith and immediately taking the mantle of captain himself.
Wallinger commented. “I am really excited to be part of the Kent Kings team. I always enjoy riding at Central Park and get a good reception from the fans. I’m very happy to be on board and add my experience as we aim for the Play Offs”.
Wallinger’s NL debut for his new side will be away at main challengers for top spot in the division, Leicester Lion Cubs on Saturday (31/8)
