Kent seek to retain a title held since 2015 in today's National League Pairs at Sheffield Speedway - start time 5.30pm.
A slightly deceptive stat that, as in fact the 2015 event (when then Kings' duo, Ben Morley and Danny Ayres combined to take the title) was the last time this particular championship was staged. A combination of events meant that the 2016 event never happened and then the Pairs somehow fell off the NL Major Events schedule. It's back this year and being staged at the prestigious Owlerton Stadium in the steel city. The Sheffield track is where Kent's Drew Kemp rides in the SGB Championship (SGBC) so he will feel like he's on home territory as he and racing partner, Anders Rowe seek to ensure the Pairs title stays with Kent.
Their qualifying task seems a bit less tricky now with the news that Isle Of Wight seemingly no longer have Georgie Wood available to partner Morley in their Pair. Mystery surrounds this, as Wood was said by the Warriors to be unfit but did ride for his SGBC team in Sussex last night so it remains unclear if he is definitely missing today. The new racing order shows Chris Widman taking his place. The other changed line up is in the other Group where Cradley have been hit by injuries and field a weakened duo of their two reserves, Harry McGurk and Sheldon Davies
Other former Sheffield Tigers in the field are Joe Lawlor, Nathan Stoneman and winner of the title with Stoke in 2014, Ben Wilson
Sheffield co-promoter Damien Bates said: “Here at Sheffield we are always looking at the youngsters and their potential for development, and this season we have been delighted to see Drew Kemp progress in our own colours and with his NL side, Kent Kings"
