In a spell of weeks where there's been precious little in the way of good news during a barely precedented injury crisis for the Kent TouchTec Kings, the news that new signing Jake Mulford is okay after his scary crash on Monday has been a major fillip for all at the National League [NL] table-topping club.
Len Silver was happy to receive the bulletin on his new youthful capture after that trip to hospital caused by a very unwelcome heat one crash on Monday in the NL match vs. Stoke Potters. He explains, "Up bright and early as usual on Tuesday morning to get to the stadium for track work, at 7am my 'phone rang and it was Team Manager Chris Hunt to give me the welcome message that Jake's injuries were not serious after all. Just heavy bruising and some sore abrasions. I cannot describe how relieved I felt and got back on the tractor with a song in my head!"
The veteran co-promoter has been involved over the years in many a landmark signing of up and coming Speedway talent and is full of enthusiasm for this latest one, "I was delighted at Monday's post meeting press conference even in Jake's temporary absence then to announce that the Mulford family have committed Jake's Speedway future to Kent - news that delights me for so may reasons. He is a very exciting youngster, brave as a Lion, and with a natural "racing" brain, a rare commodity in one so young."
The 15-year-old was keen to reassure the Kent fans and give thanks for the close attention and care given to him after the frightening incident, "Unfortunately in that first ride I hit a wet patch spinning me round and then causing me to flip it -luckily Joe Alcock of Stoke who was behind me, reacted fast to lay his bike down because things otherwise could have been a lot worse. I'm alright now just a bit sore and stiff but that will go soon and I'm glad I was wearing one of the best helmets which helped me with a lot of the impact. "Thanks to all the paramedics at the track, they were great and also to the ones who came from the County Hospital to have another check on me after my blood pressure dropped. Now I'm preparing for my next meeting which is at the weekend over in Germany for some Longtrack"
