Just when you thought Speedway couldn’t get any more exciting, along comes the 'Supporters of Kent Kings' (SOKK) Facebook group fundraiser.
Not content with bringing you The Kent Laurels on Monday 9th October, featuring a whole host of SLYDE Kings’ legends present & past and a sprinkling of top Travel Plus National League [TPNL] stars, the SOKK fundraiding event will be giving you four blokes wearing tutus, wigs, tights and full makeup, twirling brollies and racing round on bicycles!.
‘Is this all included in the admission price?’ I hear you ask. Well, sort of - those same four weirdos, hereinafter known as the 'Brolly Wallies', will be coming among you to relieve you of any money they find about your person when they turn your pockets out, including the soon-to-be-obsolete old pound coins (so if you’ve got any stashed away, bring them along!).
The makeovers will take place in the bar area any time from 5.00pm, so be sure to arrive in time for those photo opportunities with Sean Knight, Gordon & Bill Roissetter and Ben Clifton. Then at 6.10pm the 'Brolly Wallies' will take to the track on pushbikes to race against each other, not only for bragging rights, but also to see if any of them can break the one lap pushbike record of 40.6 seconds set last year (by Bill).
They’ll all be out on track again at 6.30pm to preside over the first few races of the Laurels, ensuring that the riders line up in their correct gate positions (gawd help us all), before swapping brollies for collection buckets and extracting cash from the the spectators.
SOKK’s Bill Roissetter said, "Thanks to your generosity, last year SOKK was able to raise enough money to make cash awards to our riders totalling £650 at the End of Season Party. There will be at least four award categories again this year and it would be fantastic if we could get to a figure that would enable us to do even more than in 2016".
